Starting a Book Club for Kids

Welcome! So you want to start a book club for your kids? Are you looking for books for your kids to read? Here are some resources that can help. Check out this post that details my advice for starting a book club.

Book Club for Kids – 5 Tips for Getting Started

If you’re looking for reading lists, you’ve come to the right place! I’ll update these as our book clubs read more, so feel free to bookmark this page and check back periodically!

Upper Elementary Books

Below is the list of books we have used for my son’s “Remote Readers” book club. There are four members – 2 girls, 2 boys – and they are in 3rd and 4th grades. Click the “download” button below each title for a free question guide for your moderator to use!

The Island of the Blue Dolphins – by Scott O’Dell

This book details the time a young girl spends alone on an island and her methods of survival. It is based on a true story, and even though it was first published in 1960, the kids all truly enjoyed reading this story.

Frindle – by Andrew Clements

Have you ever wondered where the words we use came from and what life would be like if the words had been different? In this book a boy comes up with his own word – frindle – but will it catch on? This was a cute, funny, and quick read. All three of my kids (3, 6, and 8) enjoyed this one, and the book club loved it too!

The Wild Robot – by Peter Brown

The Wild Robot Discussion Questions – coming soon!

This is the second book of survival on our list, so it makes for good conversation comparing this one to Island of the Blue Dolphins. Even if you aren’t reading both though, this one is worth checking out. Truly a unique story of a robot learning to survive in the wild. There are lots of pages, but the chapters are very short so it makes for an excellent read aloud. Another one that all of my kids loved. The 3 year old even asked for the sequel for his 4th birthday!

There’s A Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom – by Louis Sachar

There’s A Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom Discussion Questions – coming soon!

As is always the case with a Louis Sachar book, I heard my son giggling to himself several times as he read this one! We love any and all of this author’s books that we’ve read, this is no different.
